I’m Carmen Alvarez, graduated as a medical oncologist in the Netherlands.

Patient care is an essential part of my daily life. Through my profession, I meet different people at really difficult moments and in vulnerable circumstances. My goal is to help them along their path with my medical knowledge but also with my personal accompaniment. Meeting so many different people in difficult situations is helpful for me to discover what is really meaningful in life.

Next to my clinical responsibilities, I’m involved in the supervision of young doctors in training. For me, it is essential not only to transfer knowledge and skills, but also to pay attention to the personal development of these young colleagues with a holistic approach.

What does a medical doctor do in a leadership institute?

I feel actually really grateful for the opportunity of sharing my professional observations of resilience and reflection with young people.

Besides that, I have experienced myself how valuable it is to have a mentor who can help you flourish and contribute to your character formation and personal growth.

I recognize this approach in the vision of Stichting Grotius and I am very enthusiastic to be able to contribute to this goal.

I am the Director of Finance of van Reigersberch Leadership Institute. I am happy to support all the projects of the Institute from the financial point of view. Among others, I’ll consider my task as fruitful if we are able to make the activities affordable for everyone who is interested, i.e. by asking for funding, since I’m really convinced that these activities will really resonate in a big group of young people during the rest of their lives.

Formation that lasts a lifetime is only possible with those who make it possible.
